At Home With The Artist

Dennis Reinke

Living in Loveland, Colorado in the eighties, Dennis had the benefit of friendships and learning from many unselfish fine artists. After working in sculpture for several years he immersed himself in the study of painting having been given a kick start by Clyde Aspevig. Dennis was intrigued by the resultant luminosity of the work by Maxfield Parrish. He studied color theory, the use of primary colors and the technique and palettes of other artists both in watercolor and oil painting. He studied with artists Irving Shapiro, Buffalo Kaplinski and Kim English. Studies with Jon Zahourek were extremely important for understanding the muscle and bone activity in the human and animal anatomy. His studies also included classes along with many others at the University of Cincinnati, Notre Dame Graduate School and night classes at the Cincinnati School of Fine Art and Colorado State University
Statement
Dennis has always studied art along with his technical career and carried the technical discipline into the art process. He developed his abilities in perspective drawing to a point where it became automatic. His sculpture was a result of looking at detail in every form. What he learned from his studies of color theory was tested in paintings. Spiritual freedom, however, brings freedom in life, and that freedom opened up the whole world of exploration for Dennis. He paints now because he loves the challenge, sense of discovery and sharing the joy of the experience. He relives the memory and appreciation for the moment when he first experienced the beauty of the subject he is painting. The beauty of nature, the feeling, the joy and the atmosphere want to be expressed beyond the realism. Dennis creates the illusion of space, distance with a quick expressionistic brushstroke.

"Dennis sees the world quite clearly... and that is obvious from his style of painting. He probably sees more detail that most people will ever notice. But once you have seen his work, you cannot take your eyes off his vision." Lynn White, Shriver Gallery, Taos, NM.

His passion now is growth, not in a competitive mode, but in new directions, taking the best and plunging ahead somewhere out there, in a unique, exciting and personal journey. Dennis practices a new awareness and confidence, living with his art, every day to the fullest.
